About Serve City’s Director
Tom Welsh brings 15 years of head coaching experience to the club. He has been a head coach at every level, starting in Middle School and ranging all the way up to the College level. He most recently spent two years at Morton College as their head coach where he lead the Panthers to the most wins by a first year head coach in program history and had more conference wins in his first season than the previous three seasons combined. Prior to Morton, he spent four years running his own high school program down in the Champaign area where he led two different high schools to successful records. His first varsity job started at a small 1A school in Arcola, Illinois. The school hadn’t had a winning record in over ten years, when Tom left the program after three years the school finished with consecutive winning seasons and the most wins in program history in the span of three years. After his time at Arcola, Tom took over the program at Monticello High School and in his one season the team had more combined wins then the previous five seasons total.
Tom currently lives in Naperville with his wife and their two dogs. Tom and Stephanie (his wife) previously lived in Champaign where he spent close to ten years of his life and where he met Stephanie who is from Champaign. Tom was born and raised in Naperville and also attended Neuqua Valley High School, where he played for four years and after his time at NVHS and after numerous offers to play at schools around the state, he decided to play two years at COD (College of DuPage) and stay home and work full time. Tom has been around the sport for close to twenty years either as a player or coach. Tom credits his sister for bringing the sport of volleyball into his life, his first coaching “job” was assisting with his sisters’ junior high team while he was still in high school.
“I cannot express how excited and blessed I am to be able to continue my volleyball journey here at Serve City. To be in a place where I am able to give back to the community and help young athletes achieve their dreams is something I have worked my whole life for. I am incredibly excited about the opportunity and am looking forward to continuing to build the Serve City name for years to come! It really is a dream come true!”
