Welcome to Serve City Volleyball!

With Wheaton and Carol Stream as our hub and with training locations in Wheaton, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn and West Chicago, Serve City is proud to be serving the western suburbs as the most family-friendly, fun and affordable volleyball club in the Chicago area for the sixth straight year! We combine the suburbs’ most inexpensive registration fees that fit the needs of working and middle-class families with a dedicated, growth-mindset training approach that helps athletes stretch, learn and grow both on and off the court as volleyball players, as leaders and as people!

In 2020-2021, Serve City is offering an exciting new three-phased approach to the season! It combines a robust training model for our athletes with the continued lowest fees of any volleyball club in the Chicago area.

Here’s how it works:

2020-2021 Season: Three-Phased Approach

This year’s full season will be divided into phases to allow more flexibility for athletes and families and to provide a robust training approach amidst the state’s various restrictions during the pandemic.

Phase 1 of Full Season: Sept. 11 to Oct. 31 (Completed with 155 Athletes Participating!)

Phase 1 of the full season ran for eight weeks, starting on Sept. 11 and concluding on Oct. 31.

Phase 1 focused on player training, with two practices a week devoted to an engaging mix of:

  • Positional training (setters, pin hitters, middle hitters, back-row defense and passing, etc.)

  • Age group training (including regular intrasquad scrimmaging)

  • Player assessments

  • Some outdoor training (sand court 6s or grass court 6s) without masks as weather permits (starting Aug. 15 the state required all volleyball players to wear masks while playing indoors but not while playing outdoors)

Phase 2 of Full Season Began Nov. 2

Phase 2 of the 2020-21 season began on Monday, Nov. 2. Like Phase 1, it was slated to run for eight weeks, with breaks for Thanksgiving Nov. 22-29 and for Christmas and New Year’s Dec. 21 to Jan. 3. Due to Gov. Pritzker’s lockdown on indoor team sports that began on Nov. 20, Phase 2 was put on hold from Nov. 30 to Dec. 20 before slowly beginning to resume on Jan. 4 with individual small group training sessions for each age level.

(The season will immediately transition to Phase 3 as soon as the state approves playing volleyball leagues or tournaments.)

What happens in Phase 2?

  • Teams are formed based on coaches’ evaluations of athletes throughout Phase 1.

  • All athletes who accepted full-season invitations from us either before or after tryouts are automatically accepted onto a team.

  • Select athletes whose families only signed up to take part in Phase 1 are also invited back for Phase 2 and assigned to a team.

  • Some athletes whose families only registered to take part in Phase 1 might be asked to try out for Phase 2.

After extensive Phase 1 player training, Phase 2 focuses on both team and player development with face masks for players and coaches as required by the governor and a mix of intra-club scrimmage matches and in-house tournaments pairing our club teams of similar age levels together for competition.

Most Phase 2 practices are traditional team practices with some positional training continued from Phase 1. For our teams’ matches, we are broadcasting them via Facebook Live for families who would like to watch their daughters play (which is all of you!), as the state prohibits spectators from attending during the pandemic.

Phase 3 of Full Season: League Play and Tournaments

Phase 3 caps our full season. Phase 3 could begin at any time during the pandemic-affected season, usurping some of our Phase 2 plans. Phase 3 starts immediately after state and local authorities and USA Volleyball approve league play and tournaments for youth volleyball teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When youth volleyball receives state approval for league and tournament action, our full-season teams will begin competing in the Chicago Volleyball League for the second straight year. The Chicago Volleyball League runs match play for middle school (12U, 13U, 14U teams) and high school (15U, 16U, 17U, 18U).

Phase 3 practices again will take place twice a week and will primarily be team practices along with some positional training.

Phase 3 was originally scheduled to conclude on Feb. 21 for our middle school teams and Feb. 7 for our high school teams (prior to the start of the IHSA season on Feb. 15). Due to the governor’s lockdown on indoor team sports, the season end dates have been pushed back in order to complete each season.

Refund Policy

COVID-19

If you are sick or your team or the athletes you train with come in contact with a case of coronavirus, we will not be providing a refund for two to four weeks of time missed. However, if we are no longer able to train for an extended period of time, we will proceed under one of the following guidelines:

  • We will do our best to have make-up practices, longer training sessions and/or extend the training phases into the summer to accommodate for a similar amount of training. If we feel this is not possible, we will transition to option #2.

  • Option #2: Pro-rated refund based on funds we are able to recoup (coaches’ fees for time unworked, tournament refunds if applicable, practice court rentals if we receive refunds and miscellaneous annual administrative expenses).

Other Refunds

  • For injuries or sickness: If your child breaks her ankle (or any other injury/sickness) during the season and is unable to train for a period of time, we are unable to provide a refund. However, we will do our best to find a replacement for your daughter, and if we are able to we will refund you accordingly.

  • Being removed from the program: If you violate our code of conduct and need to be removed from the program, you will not get a refund. However, as with injuries and sickness, we will do our best to find a replacement and refund accordingly. (This is also true if you move or willingly leave the program for any reason.)
